When you finally see the greater picture, when you finally realize just how much I loved you, I hope it chokes you up inside. I hope you feel my touch, the ghost of what we had. I hope you remember the good times, how I never stopped taking photos of you, all my time, attention and happiness. By the time you realize this, I won’t know you anymore and you won’t know me. I won’t love you any less, just differently. I won’t have to pretend I don’t care, I won’t have to cry myself to sleep. No longer will I hide or dwell on what could have been, I won’t feel anything anymore. I will never love you any less, it will always feel effortless.

Here I stand thousands of miles from home yet again, the snow freezing my toes as I watch the low fog engulf the snow capped peaks surrounding me. I got home around 3:00 AM that night from a separate climb a city away. As I walked in George was just beginning to get dressed for the sunrise that awaited us. It was approaching 5:00 am as we neared the summit, we hurried as fast as the conditions would allow us, occasionally sliding on the ice. I watched as the blue clouds slowly shifted to a fiery orange. We hurried the last 300 ft. up the steep snow packed ridge, running and laughing through the snow. I remember falling and getting buried to my knees, but I didn't mind. The sky was alive, my heart was alive, I watched as the world changed around me as if it was putting on a private show. Never had I seen a more vibrant display of colors as the fog reflected the early morning sun. I hadn't slept in 72 hours but I didn't regret it, not even for a second.

It was a warm summer night, the kind you only see in movies, her hair falling perfectly against her shoulders as the moonlight glistened against her eyes. “Go where you feel most alive,” she told me. Far from home, lost in a sea of lights was where I felt most alive. I always loved the way New York City swallowed you, almost as if you became invisible among the sea of pedestrians. I found pleasure knowing I wouldn't see people again, knowing that to them, I was just a face. It was a stark contrast to the solitude of the mountains. I promised you I would explore them one day, and I remained true to my word. The Alpine stood unyielding, it whispered to all who dared to challenge it, a haunting testament to the fragility of human existence. Among the peaks, I found isolation, one that echoed the same feeling of anonymity the bustling streets of New York City brought me. I understood how you felt, I always did. Perhaps we weren't as different as you had believed.
